Surprise! I'm in INDIA.

Sorry to be so spammy tonight, but this is WEIRD.

I logged in tonight to catch me some baseball, got the #$@#! blackout message that means my IP address has been reset and it doesn't know where I am, and when I called tech support they said they couldn't help me because I had an IP address that's in India, where apparently people are not allowed to watch American baseball. (which is weird, but I'm sure few of them care.)

SO... no Dodgers/Giants tonight, because California fell into the ocean and wound up in India.

Really surprisingly little damage, considering.

Do you use mlb.tv?

I could give you my info if you want--the account is on an 07481 zip code so dodgers shouldn't be blacked out.

that said, we'll send you ian kennedy and melky cabrera if you give us clayton kershaw =P

Also, know any good latin programs?

[identity profile] sepdet.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, thank you!

But the reason they're refusing to grant me access is because my IP address is in India, so it doesn't matter that my zip code is in an area where NO teams should be blacked out. It's the IP address that's got me jammed, not the zip code. That's dependent on my cable company.

Um... um... sorry, we need Kershaw. We're trotting out too many no-name pitchers as it is.

Torre got tossed out of a game last night, by the way, for arguing an ump shouldn't have thrown Casey Blake out for a comment he said to someone in the dugout. (He called a call Horse****, which it was, but regardless, nobody would've known about it if the ump hadn't made a big deal.)

Latin programs as in universities-- in which case most of the Ivy Leagues will do but there's $ issues-- or do you mean software?

Sadly, I've dropped off the classics circuit a bit so I'm not actually sure what the best would be.

[identity profile] firerosearien.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Anything, really. I'm apparently the only one in my master's program with no Latin.

And hon, we have Sidney Ponson on our team.

That should tell you all you need to know.

I feel bad for your bullpen though. Poor Joe can't manage a 'pen to save his life!

[identity profile] sepdet.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
Luckily we have a pen which is lights-out.

Except it's a bad sign that both Proctor and all-star Saito are now on the DL, isn't it?

It's also a bad sign that I'd never heard of our starter before he started tonight, and he was going against Matt Cain. We're lucky we won.

By the way, if you've got a bucket of balls, we have this guy named Andruw Jones... I'm sure he'd make a good bat boy...

[identity profile] firerosearien.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Hah. I remember when Andruw Jones was, you know, something good...

Torre killed Scott Proctor for us. When we heard Torre was going to LAA we were all like "run Scott run!"

We knew the techtonic plates were moving but this seems a bit excessive. . .

That recent round of quakes finally did it, eh?

the restrictions on american streaming media are really annoying. i can hardly watch anything legal beyond youtube and google videos, not even officially-sponsored company websites like hulu.com

And this is why we love rampant Asian piracy.

<_< We're in India? maybe that's why my phones weren't working... :O oh and I forgot to mention, I just remembered, my sister in law (same one I just posted about on your other journal about the air mattress jumpy things) called last night saying she and the family have two extra tickets to the Dodger game on Friday so they wanted to know if Dal and I wanted to go. :O

It's a Diamondbacks-Dodgers game... the division leaders this year scrapping out out for first place, though "scrapping" is definitely the operative word, as both teams are plagued with injuries and randomly bad nights.

But still, it should be exciting!

In all fairness I haven't been enjoying games as much at the stadium this year; there's been a sudden increase in "So and so sucks!" chants that makes it feel a lot less like old-timey baseball. I blame the sound guys for playing the rap the players want to hear during their walk-up to the plate, as opposed to letting old Nancy Bea charm us with the pipe organ.
