Trekqueen-- wanna collaborate?

I've been distracting you with star trek and religion and all sorts of blather, but we've got a writing prompt in the Return of the Noldor thread I sucked you into. Wanna hash out our next posts in tandem? It might help, since the GM's last post is loooong... that was a little confusing; I wonder if she lost a few paragraph breaks divvying it up.

So let me repost the part of the GM's post that Ecthelion and Glory are involved in, breaking it into easy-to-manage chunks, and then when you are ready to play, you get first dibs at writing Glorfy and I'll add in Ec, or however you like! When we've got it, we can our posts in the real thread, or one person can post both if it works better -- plaza buddies sometimes joint post. (But then you should post so you get the points for it-- I've got plenty. :D)

GM's post, first part -- on the Ice

[identity profile] sepdet.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ia]. still on the Ice...Turgon and Idril]

Turgon smiled at Ecthelion. He raised one arm and then the other so that they would enfold about the shoulders of Glorfindel and Ecthelion. Shivering he spoke, When the first camp is made, you will share the warmth and comfort of my fire, my friends. And in the realm that I will choose you both shall be mighty lords for I am in need of wise and brave men who rule with goodly hearts.

Meanwhile, Idril made a small soft sound at the words of Ecthelion and tugged on his clothes, wanting a pick-me-up.

[Ib]. Same scene, Aigronding's own Middle-earth character as a child, tagging after the Big Names...]

Aigronding looked up at the great man who was Ecthelion and listened to him speak as he himself tightened his cowl about his young elfin face, cold as it was. Then I will seek them out sometime when we arrive; I'll say how sorry I am about leaving them and making them worry. Yes...that's exactly it; father and my sister they killed the Teleri and the Sea-elves didn't even do anything wrong. They were stealing their ships so they had a right to protect what they made. The Noldor, being craftsmen, should have known better. Following as someone as hot-headed as Feanor is, is pretty foolish; they didn't listen to me though....and amme thought like me but mother didn't want to leave father. She's a Vanya you know. Aigronding touched his hair. I get the gold from her.

We need not do too much here since the scene moved forward... just a little wrap-up or something that segues into the main post, arrival in Middle-earth. The stuff with Aigronding is directed at Ecthelion, so you don't need to reply to that bit unless Glory feels like being his shining example self to a young lad. :)

Okay, I lie. Since Aigronding's bit is directed at Ec specifically, here's my first crack at a response to part I...which may go before or after what you write.

"My lord," said Ecthelion, head bowed with hand on heart. "I feel the warmth of your fire already -- you warm us and honor us with your trust. When your towers and fountains rise in that new land, we shall be proud to serve the House of Turgon as we have served your great Father. By his leave, we shall help you guard and guide a mighty people."

A tug on his tunic brought lofty words to earth, and Ecthelion smiled tenderly at the little princess, whose loss she now bore in her innocent face. He gathered the girl into his arms. "And I will play my crystal flute for you, sweet Idril, as soon as my fingers are not so cold. For now I would sound like a walrus, and the noise might frighten the children."

[Glorfindel? but Ec would defer to Glory, of course! The half-Vanyar chap has seniority. ;) ]

...

[Some reaction to Glory, if you post there...]

"Ah, I should have guessed," Ecthelion said with a bow to Aigronding. "You share the same high blood as my gallant friend here, the flower of honor among all the Noldor."

Still carrying Idril, Ecthelion pressed on. And on, through pain and blindness, although his body ached to yield up its shell. But so long as he held Turgon's jewel, he could not falter, could not stumble, could not fail his lord's trust...

(And this will slot into the next part, where we talk of arriving on land, seeing the burned-out ships and our first glimpse of Tilion.)

"From your flute, even the sound of a walrus will be considered melodious," chuckled Glorfindel and he reached out to little Idril, fixing the hood over her blonde head to ward off the cold. He could feel her questioning, grief-filled eyes looking deep into him. "Do not worry, tittaquen (little one), I loved your mother as well. Ecthelion and I shall be by your side always whenever you need us in her stead."

Glorfindel's heart lifted a little when Turgon had embraced him and Ecthelion with talk of the new world that lay before him. All three of them needed each other in what was to come ahead, especially as Turgon tried to busy himself to distract from the pain of his loss. Idril needed them; especially for her he would remain steadfast and true.
------
for the arrival on land

The peak was but a silhouette at first: a ghostly figure in the mists. When they walked closer did Glorfindel realize what was ahead.

"Look to the horizon," Glorfindel pointed out to Ecthelion. "We have arrived."

GM's post, second half -- reaching Land

[IIa. Fastforwarding the journey: Land Ho!]

(Wow, long. Let me bold direct character address for easy reading.)

Long they wandered, the elves, spectral and white in the frozen and deadly shifting wasteland of the Grinding Ice. Fingolfin reached out and touched Glorfindel's arm. Though visibility is poor, I can see it...I can see a fire. The bright light of destiny over this hell of ice and deadly mists. Though the fogs....be ever so chill.... I can feel that warmth. Tell me you...feel as it as well.

It gradually began to warm....as the hours slipped by at a snail's pace....then they were there. The moanings began and the crying but they were joyful as they reached the earth of Endor. Many of them cursed Feanor, his sons, and host when they looked upon the remains of the Swanships. Nothing left but blackened pieces; many wept at the sights of scorched swanhead images.

Aredhel he could see making her way off down the coast much to the grumblings of her protective older brother Turgon. When asked to stay put she flatly told her father no; his independant daughter, hand holding tight to Aigronding's hand, yelled for him to hear : I see a tiny dwelling in the distance ! Someone has built a small home close near; we're going to see who is living there; we'll return shortly .! [She's going off to meet Lady Aikari's character, I assume]

Fingolfin sighed but smiled, muttering, Ar-Feiniel. Fingolfin advised Glorfindel to settle Turgon down about Aredhel's hastiness and then the elven high lord cast aside his burdensome raiment for the harsh enviornment they had to cross. He walked slowly and diliberately atop a high pile of shoreland rock, alone; from atop it, he looked over the horizon and saw a land before him that was fair...tendrils of mists wafted. Meanwhile people began to exclaim upon seeing a great luminous light shining above them in the vault of menel ( heaven ). It was silvery-white like the radiance of Telperion and lit the clouds aglow ; Fingolfin trained his gaze above.

[IIb. Just arrived in Middle-earth, same scene: Moonrise]

The clouds passed and the elves of Fingolfin and his children and relatives looked on in amazed wonder at the shining glove that beamed beautiful in the sky. The sweet radiance of the vessel washed over them. It was not without marring though for there were dark spots upon the sphere as if it had been burned just a bit by some type of fire. But it was glorious and beautiful nonetheless. Turgon told Glorfindel, his eyes still upon the sphere, and told him : I will have this as an emblem of my house; I will join it with the star and heart. Fingolfin, softly smiling, had now tears spilling; upon his regal white clothes overlaid with silver maille was a baldric of fine silver; from it he removed his horn of silver. Beautiful and clear it rang out, echoing off the coastland mountains. And many other trumpets joined in harmony. Fingolfin and his own had come to Middle-earth. Idril pointed at the sphere. Something's happening..... It was true....there were bursts of silver in the space of the great shining disc that even the elves could see from their vantage point on the earth.

"It would be a great symbol of your lordship," Glorfindel replied to Turgon.

The joy of the surrounding crowd upon reaching solid earth could not be ignored and the aura that was building could match the great orb that had just risen in the sky. Glorfindel looked to Ecthelion, the captain's silver-gilded armor shone magnificently in the light of thousands upon thousands of stars, almost as if he emanated an inner light himself.

"A gift now shines upon us," the golden-haired elf commented. "This light will lead us to our new fates in this land: An omen for us all in these dark times to remind us we shall overcome all shadows of evil."

*beams* Now you've got it!

Blast it, I went ahead and posted my bit without checking here... I didn't want to be a nag!

But what you have written is splendid! Gather it all up. It works beautifully with what I've written, and it will fit right in. Go play. :) I'm so glad you're inspired!

This post is a little unusual-- the GM's, I mean.

On second thought, I think I'm going to post something SHORTER, so that you don't have to sift through everything Aig posted. That was a monster!!!! Just skim/respond to stuff from the GM directed towards Glorfindel, which I bolded throughout in quoting it above.

Also, skim mine (http://www.lotrplaza.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=229244&PID=6923522#6923522), which may help you get your own juices going. I was a longwinded too, alas!
