Oh good. And bad, but good.

I stepped outside to check on status of garden (latest acquisition: miniature rose, Kithyra-style, which I haven't tried growing again since my first days in Boston) before running errands, and apparently Samhain slipped past me, even though she'd been asleep on the bed upstairs 30 seconds earlier.

I came home an hour and a half later, stepped out onto the porch, and she got up and told me off at length. But she hadn't strayed. Malcolm would've been in Riverside by that time.

I am now trying to motivate myself to get busy, when I want to sit here listening to the birds, wind in the trees, and especially the wind-chimes which is making dreamy goofy tinkly noises. It is nearly 90, dry, sunny, with a bright, clean blue-sky breeze blowing in all the windows which just SCREAMS "lazy summer afternoon." I no longer have to go to the Inn of the Seventh Ray to get my New Age vibes. (Well, okay, they have a few other things I lack, like excellent cooking.)

And -- ROSES!

Wish me luck. It is a sign of completeness that I am trying to have my own rosebush again. I gave up years ago because losing them made me sad, but it's an odd little quirk of self-identity, having a miniature rosebush with tiny red blooms.

I'm also trying my upside-down hanging pot for growing cherry tomatoes, since I've grown impatient trying to sprout them from seeds.

Speaking of roses, Other Rose, have you seen pictures of genetically-engineered blue roses? Unsurprisingly, Japanese researchers were involved. Hopefully no funding from Ohtori Academy.

I had not seen the photos. At least on my screen, that is a lovely blue. I am unsurprised that they had to get the gene from irises.

You do realize that most rose breeders consider gene manipulation cheating? All the same, I think they will be wildly popular when they become commercially available.

I am very glad that your inadvertent cat security test went well.

I had a dream last night that reminded me of you. Posted about it.

Hmm.

I'm not sure if that photo is true-color, actually. This (http://inventorspot.com/articles/true_blue_roses_be_sold_first_ja_10477) looks more plausible. They're still working on getting the acidity right to eliminate the last vestiges of pink.

I'm not surprised that rose breeders consider it cheating! But I don't think they'll ever achieve blue roses otherwise... or at least, it would take a heck of a mutation.

And I saw! What a marvellous dream!

*looks at photo*

They're going to have to do better than that. Traditional rose breeders have gotten that far. I used to grow lavender roses which had color just as beautiful as that -- and, I am willing to bet, far better scent.

Good kittah! Give her a nuzzle for me. :D

And best of luck on the roses. You're right too about the day today. I went out around 11am to my car at work and even in TO it wasn't too hot but warm enough to be just right. so nice!

Oh, and on a completely unrelated note, Og stopped by to inform us that you have broken his heart by not being at Pennsic (however, he DOES look much healthier than his picture in the paper earlier in the week, when he had to leave for a medical emergency and a collection was taken up to replace his broken tent with a shiny new yurt). And he sends love, as do we all.

Awwwwww. I will have to make it up to him next year. Dear old Og. I'm sorry he's still having a rough time of it.

If you see him again, would you please convey my apologies and love, and get his email info for me, which I've put in some "safe place" so I can't find it?

Hugs to everyone, stay dry and happy!
