... is the only person I've ever had a fan-crush on who still makes my eyes water just ... watching her. Ten seconds into this video, I'm tearing up. Augh.

(This project is pretty cool -- free pianos moved from city to city. I see they've replaced the keys on the seahorse-and-flowers piano since it was in LA Union Station last spring, where I watched people more talented than myself dinking on it.)

(I still think of her as "Lady Marian of Heatherdale" because that's how I first encountered her in the Society for Creative Anachronism. Although I should say Mistress Marian, since she's been a Laurel of Bardic Arts -- the SCA equivalent of a PhD -- for nearly 20 years now!)

Posting this so I can find this musician later. Her "Yours Truly" just came up on my Pandora and I want to make note of her.

I've had this problem with Pandora: you've got a set that seems to anticipate your tastes perfectly, then you click ONE MORE THUMB and it says AHA YOU LIKE THINGS THAT SOUND LIKE A SQUIRREL BEING PULLED TAIL FIRST THROUGH A VACUUM CLEANER and you can never, ever get it to play what you like again.

Therefore I'm afraid to tell it, "Ooo, that's niiice" on the one mix I've got that generally gives me what I like.

Her fiddle style reminds me strongly of Heather Alexander. If I knew anything about the fiddle, I would probably know why, but since I don't, I just think, "Oooo, that's niiiice."

I stumbled across Rin' after my iPad's magic guitar app served up "Sakura Sakura" as a tune to try.

I am enchanted. And that lute with the fan-shaped pick is fantastic!

And then there's this exuberant fusion of east and west that pleases me even if it's got some...what is it, thrash metal? and boy band. But it's ... fun. I love the way traditions from around the world collide and go boom these days.
