Houston, we do NOT have a problem with this...

It's really too bad that NASA only recently acquired some social media savvy employees to do their PR. I suspect that we'd have had a lot more public awareness of past NASA missions, particularly the wonders of the shuttle program, if they'd been doing things like this and MarsCuriosity's "GALE CRATER, I AM IN YOU!" Twitter channel all along.

Just in case anyone missed the latest internet sensation...

Real toy + a little bit of animation touch-up using After Effects

I would've been terrified to do that with a favorite toy.

Inadequate emoticon is inadequate:

Posting this so I can find this musician later. Her "Yours Truly" just came up on my Pandora and I want to make note of her.

I've had this problem with Pandora: you've got a set that seems to anticipate your tastes perfectly, then you click ONE MORE THUMB and it says AHA YOU LIKE THINGS THAT SOUND LIKE A SQUIRREL BEING PULLED TAIL FIRST THROUGH A VACUUM CLEANER and you can never, ever get it to play what you like again.

Therefore I'm afraid to tell it, "Ooo, that's niiice" on the one mix I've got that generally gives me what I like.

Natalie MacMaster: Irish Fiddle with a little bit of modern rock thrown in.  (Like Broadside Electric, only no vocals.)

Her fiddle style reminds me strongly of Heather Alexander. If I knew anything about the fiddle, I would probably know why, but since I don't, I just think, "Oooo, that's niiiice."

I stumbled across Rin' after my iPad's magic guitar app served up "Sakura Sakura" as a tune to try.

I am enchanted. And that lute with the fan-shaped pick is fantastic!

And then there's this exuberant fusion of east and west that pleases me even if it's got some...what is it, thrash metal? and boy band. But it's ... fun. I love the way traditions from around the world collide and go boom these days.

(Warning: this and the next vid have strobe/light flashes.)

More typical Rin' awesomeness (not quite so loud):

Uh oh. Apparently Georgie is having far too much time making YouTube videos.

(Disclaimer: You know how I get hooked on some people's voices? I adore Takei's, even when he's forcing the funny. He could say anything and I'd giggle.)

Also...

I need to make an animated gif of this. Somehow.

... just something I want to save as a pick-me-up.
Also something to wake me up when I'm sleepy.

Warning: LOUD MUSIC IS LOUD.

I am a Carmina Burana fanatic, and that is just...Yay!

Some of you have probably seen these videos before, but you probably haven't seen them all.

This was organized by a theater group.

The Sound of Music

The rest are organized by Improv Everywhere, a nucleus of pranksters who use email and the web to gather groups of volunteers and dispatch them on "missions".

(If you only watch one, I recommend the food court musical for hilarity and/or the very last one. Note that Jim Gray really IS a sports broadcaster for NBC.)

Frozen Grand Central Station
(their most famous prank)

No Pants on the New York Subway

Food Court Musical
(For this one they contacted the mall upper management to get permission and rig up cameras and a sound system, but none of the regular mall employees knew what was going on.)

Best Game Ever

Go to ImprovEverwhere.com for more. I also recommend "Look Up More", "High Five on Escalator" (notice how the mood of the commuters changes by the time they reach the top), "Abercrombie and Fitch" (shirtless guys), and the "Human Mirror".
