When I headed to the archery range today at Mile Square Park, I noticed a large domestic rabbit (mostly white, some gray, red eyes). It was on the lawn beside the street where I park and hike in. I thought it belonged to a nearby family having a picnic.

Coming back, the rabbit was under the car parked behind mine. Right at the edge of a busy street.

I wound up chasing it out with my bow, the only thing on hand to reach in and poke it.

The rabbit ran under my car.

Rinse and repeat several more times.

A passing jogger stopped to try to help me herd the rabbit, thinking it was mine.

The irony is, here I'm trying to SAVE A RABBIT'S LIFE trying to use a bow as an animal-herding tool.

I don't hunt. I'm strictly a medieval recreationist. It must have looked very odd to passing cars (not the normal way one goes about hunting rabbits with a bow, using the bow like a cattle prod!)

Sadly, there's not a perfect ending to this story. After tripping on the curb and mildly twisting my ankle, I decided I was not going to get myself run over by traffic trying to save a rabbit from being run over by traffic, especially since it would probably just run right back under the other car.

Instead, I wrote on a piece of paper and stuck it under the other car's door handle:

LOOK UNDER YOUR CAR
THERE MAY BE A RABBIT
HIDING UNDER IT
I TRIED TO CHASE IT OUT
NO LUCK

If the rabbit is no longer there, they'll be sorely puzzled.

At least it was a LARGE rabbit. They're unlikely to miss seeing it.
