... while writing an unspeakably sad article about Laika the Space Dog.

TRIGGER WARNING: blatant animal cruelty that will make you sick.

Why would Laika's story remind of you? Because I'm imagining one of your moody paintings showing the wee pup in her capsule floating above the Earth.

I tried to draw Laika, but I'm not much of an artist, so I resorted to onionskinning to get her eyes and silhouette.

Ugh. Humans really are sick sometimes. I'd like to think we've moved past such things, but that would be naive. There is something sadly poetic about the story.

There is. It feels like a tragic myth. Except it really happened.

I wish all myths were metaphors.
