*nervous stammer*

"I'm very sorry, I really would prefer not to give you my email contact info so that I can read and review your [very bad] stories, which you have been [boring everyone to tears] practicing in our bardic circle. Yes, I realize I'm never going to see you again [thank gods] because you're going off to college. How nice that you like my own stories [funny you never mentioned it before, even after shamelessly taking my turn TWICE last bardic because I was so rattled after you did it the first time that I couldn't perform when it came around to me again]. Good luck with your PhD [thanks for asking about mine...oh, wait, you didn't did you?]. Now goodnight [since I'd like to say goodnight to my actual friends and by the way, when the head of the Bardic Guild says we should close the circle and depart for the sake of our hosts needing to sleep, that doesn't mean you should sing loudly and badly someone else's song right AFTER you just had a turn].

I was actually polite, just flummoxed and uncomfortable. He did think to say a few nice things to me (gasp) AFTER I had told him I'd prefer not to give him my email.

Ugh.

Thank gods I'll never see him again... WHY oh why did I ever mention the plaza in his presence?

HELLO I AM BI AND YOU MAKE ME FEEL EXCEEDINGLY LESBIAN, NOW GO AWAY BEFORE I LOSE MY TEMPER AND TELL YOU WHAT I'M REALLY THINKING.

Ah yes, courtesy, chivalry, honor: the true mark of having it is that you don't lose it, just because someone else isn't bothering.

In better news, MY BARON, er, DUKE, IS KING! KING! KING AT LAST!!!

Great Eru I wish I'd gone to crown tourney! I gave up years ago after watching the heartbreak of someone rhinohiding the old fellow! He's been king before but I think only once with his current wife, a gracious lady who offered to help me move here (and I lost her number, like a dork) without ever mentioning she was...you know...someone who usually wore a pointy hat, the barony of Orange County. They stepped down a few years ago and it's just never been the same for me.

Bardic circle was at their house tonight. His Majesty of COURSE got up and gave me his chair and sat on the frickin' floor for the rest of the evening. And checked on me, asked me how I was doing, and was as usual the living and breathing epitome of "His Grace". He believes in chivalry with ever tiny molecule of his being. Softspoken... doesn't put on airs... writes love sonnets because a knight ought to (and they're quite good) ... quiet and reserved dignity.

Think Faramir getting on in years, and you've got this bloke.

And Her Excellency is kind and practical and sensible and researches and sings gorgeous period music, sometimes in Old French.

Oh, NOW I have a reason to go to Pennsic. I always, always, always wanted to see them on the thrones when I was there, so I could smile with a dippy grin and say, "them's MY lord and lady!" I don't care diddly squat for the royalty and pointy hats, I really don't, and I still don't remember what title I should be calling them by-- but they are Noble, even in blue jeans and t-shirt.

At every event, without fail, he always comes by to check on me, because he knows I camp alone. "My lady, are you well? have you need of anything?" Not pushy, very softly. It is an ideal I try to live up to in online communities, but, being only human, I can't (and oh yeah, the MSN-guilt thing is partly due to the fact that if he always found time to check on me, why can't I manage it?)

My signature on the plaza reads, "you rule becuase they believe."
It's the inscription on the inside of the crown of Caid.
And by golly, I took up Elrond -- with my old baron and baroness in mind, believe me-- the same year the old Lion won Crown again.

Photos from the crown tourney!

The knowledge of THAT wipes out my discombobulatedness at dealing with the fellow the other bards refer to as "the young pup".

You seem to inspire that kind of hapless young admirer with some frequency. :)

It's always heartening to hear of modern day chivalry too.
