My bank has become a casualty of the meltdown. Their commercials always end with "Woo hoo."

Boo hoo?

They actually gave great customer service. I will miss them. It sounds like WaMu will be gobbled up by JP Morgan.

Hopefully I will still be able to use online bill pay and ATMs during the changeover.

Nonetheless, I am lucky, and have no cause to complain.

I simply worry. I can deal with it.

Others will not be so lucky.

Yeah, Leah has her money with WaMu, too. Somehow I don't think day to day operations are going to change much, since they're being bought out. Regular folks will probably be okay in this situation.

Oh by the way, what's a good email address to reach you at these days? I've tried a couple I had before but I don't know if the emails got through or not.

we should be ok. Dal and I were talking about it a little this morning and JPMorgan/Chase will be getting rid of some ATMs and branches that already overlap with their own but I do not believe we have them that much around here so we'll be ok with our branches staying. WaMu has always been pretty good to us but we didn't go trying to pull out all our money since we're well below the FDIC limity worry; though, dal did see a little old lady trying to pull out $200,000 in cash the other day and they wouldn't let her (complicated situation with a check).

Somewhat embarrassingly, I ride the Wall Street Pony -- at least to the extent that I've invested $ I've inherited from various relatives in mutual funds, bonds, etc. My portfolio looks like it's got ebola right now, or at least it did in April. I've stopped looking, because it's better to ride it out than panic. I've ridden out market crashes going back to the mid-80s and done well, although none were this severe or this prolonged.

I've been burned by this economic downturn, but I have not a sliver of a right to gripe about investments going *poof* when my friends are trying to survive their mortgages, home repair and health care costs, rents, and/or find ways to keep food on the table with fuel and food prices being exorbitant.

It's sad for Seattle to lose such a major company (particular right after Safeco being sold to Liberty Mutual), but I thought that WaMu had atrocious customer service, so I'm not too sad. lol

We are with WAMU as well, but I'm not worried. We are well below the FDIC limit and Brent's parents bank with Chase and like it very much. There is a link on the main WAMU site that goes to a Chase page describing what will change as a result of the merger. It looks like not much will change in the short term and in the long term WAMU will disappear into the Chase infrastructure.
