Zombie Nixon...

...just caused the fourth earthquake I've felt this month. (Three of the four were centered in Yorba Linda up the road, where Nixon is buried, so the Twitterverse has decided it's his fault.)

As usual, the moment things stopped shaking, I was searching Twitter for #earthquake to determine magnitude and location. It's the most realtime seismograph available.  

It's weird. I went for years without feeling an earthquake, and there have been four minor shakes this month. I guess I just got lucky, and the epicenter of one is quite near me so I'm feeling all the little stuff instead of just the 5+ stuff. 

ETA: Looking back at my "California" tag, I notice an odd thing: the last time I felt a lot of earthquakes was in '08.

Maybe it really IS Zombie Nixon, and he's commenting on the elections!

Actually, I've had this page bookmarked for about 15 years:

(that map lets you bookmark it so that it's centered over your approximate location)

I was just joking to somebody:

• In the 90s, when there was an earthquake, I'd turn on the TV to find out the epicenter and where the damage was.
  
• In the 00s, when there was an earthquake, I'd go to that map and wait 10-15 minutes for it to update.
  
• in the 10s, when there's an earthquake, I log onto Twitter and search #earthquake, because I've usually figured out the approximate magnitude and epicenter from all the #OMG #EARTHQUAKE !!! Tweets at least 5 minutes before the USGS adds it to the map. :)

:) I'm not member of the Twitterverse yet... it doesn't help that the company firewall has twitter blocked off.

Also, I LOVE the 'Zombie Nixon' idea
